GUIDELINES FOR AGE MANAGERS

DISCIPLINE

Offensive language and/or bad behaviour, disrespect to age managers etc. will not be tolerated. If an athlete misbehaves please report him/her to a committee member or take them to the office to be supervised. They will be removed from the afternoon's events an will be disqualified from any, points they may have been eligible for.

TRACK AND FIELD INFORMATION

Safety

Ensure athletes are clear of the track when competitors are running. Teach athletes to STOP and LOOK prior to crossing any running track.

Position the rake at the long and triple jump pits so that nobody can injure himself or herself.

Ensure only one person on high jump mats at one time.

Stress that athletes are not to play with spare shot and discus while waiting for their turn. Keep everyone behind the thrower and well back from the discus net.

How to record

Record the age and sex of the group you are with on the top of the page.  List all children's name and registration numbers down the left side of the page. Record the event, eg. 100m, at the top of the next column, with track in the first two columns and field events in the last two. The athlete's performance is the recorded across the page next to their name. High jump is recorded on a separate page in a similar manner.

How to measure

When measuring triple and long jump, measure from where the sand is first broken in the pit back to the front of the board or to the toe print on the sand mat, at a right angle to the take off board.

When measuring shot and discus, the peg is placed through the end of the tape measure in the ground where the shot or discus first lands, at the closest point to the circle. The tape is then pulled out across the middle of the circle and the measurement is read from the inside edge of the footboard in shot, or the inside of the circle in discus.

Basic Rules

For both discus and shot, if the implement lands on or touches the line it is a foul. It is a foul to walk out of the front of the circle, i.e. in front of the half way line. Stepping on or over the front of the line during a throw is also a foul.

The athlete has three attempts at a height in high jump. Once one height is missed 3 times, they are then out of the competition for any further raises of the bar.

The athlete must leave the long and triple jump pit in front of where they land. To walk backwards in the pit is a foul.  Placing a toe or any part of the foot over the front of the board or mat is a foul.
